Go Without

At the end of September, Amber West of A Day Without Sushi issued a challenge to her fellow bloggers — give up something small in order to donate the money that you would have normally spent on it to charity. It’s a way to encourage people to give to others despite how difficult the economy is. We hope that each of you will take part with us. Don’t forget, your gift of time is valuable too. Blog to raise awareness of your favorite charity or non-profit if you really can’t afford to give anything up.

Here’s what we’re giving up, and what we’ll be donating that money to.

Marcy has chosen to give up jelly beans. She uses them to survive long trips, motivate herself to edit just one more chapter, and to unwind at the end of a long day.

Lisa is giving up all iTunes purchases for a month. .99cents here and there add up. I LOVE music – it inspires me and helps me write. I have different playlists for different kinds of writing I do and expanding those playlists is something I enjoy doing. A lot. But this is a most worthy cause that’s close to both our hearts.

We’re donating the money we’ll save to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Not only do they rescue animals from abusive situations, but they find homes for strays and put together programs (such as the feral cat neuter and vaccinate initiative) to help the thousands of feral and abandoned animals that remain homeless. What many people don’t realize is that the OSPCA provides care to sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife, and returns them to their natural environment as well. They always run out of money before they run out of animals who need their help.

Remember to leave a comment and a link to your blog if you plan to take part. Let’s encourage one another.

  1. I guess that would have to be chocolate. But you have no idea what you are asking :)Probably like Marcy’s jelly beans.

  3. Needed: more water; Not needed: cappuccinos and lattes; Results: money – and calories – saved

I don’t personally know anyone who would want the extra calories, but the money will find a new home.

Thanks, ladies. This is a great idea.
