Writers are people watchers, we ask difficult questions, we always want to know, ‘Why?”
Last week as I was leaving my house, I noticed a teen lurking at the side of my neighbour’s house across the street. Five doors down, two police cars parked on the curb drew my eye. The teen kept glancing around the house at the Police Officers speaking an older lady in her pajamas in her driveway. Then the teen turned and looked right at me. He wore a green bandanna under his backwards ball cap, dark baggy jeans, and a white tank top – the kind basketball players wear. Our eyes met for a moment. He seemed frozen, and I was frozen in his stare. A second later, the spell broken, I jumped inside my house and locked the door.
